How To Make Your Home Romantic This Valentine’s Day

We’re lucky that this year Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday. Without the worry of work the next day, you can go all out and make it an unforgettable evening for your other half.

If you’re choosing to stay in this year, look no further for ideas of what to do. In this blog we’re covering how to get that romantic vibe going for a cosy evening at home.

Scented candles

There’s nothing more complimentary to a cosy evening in than scented candles. Choose yourself a soft flowery scent and get them lit about half an hour before your partner comes home from a busy week in the office. When they enter the house they’ll be greeted with a nice inviting smell.

Lavender can be a relaxing scent, so this could be a good option to start unwinding for the weekend. Alternatively, you could opt for the classic rose smell which will always be a winner!

If you aren’t a fan of candles, have you tried a diffuser? You can add an essential oil and it’ll be released as steam into the room.

Cook their favourite dinner

What’s your partner’s favourite meal to eat at dinner time?

Whether it’s steak, pizza, or even a local take away, buy it in and present the food neatly for your other half. If you usually eat in front of the TV (many of us are guilty!), make an effort to set dinner up at the dining table so you can have a proper chat about your day. You may find that with the usual busyness of each week, you miss out talking about your everyday life.

Watch a romantic film

Following dinner, cosy up on the sofa for a romantic film. If your partner has a favourite, make sure you have that available to watch. If not, we have a few of our own suggestions!

If you like classic films, why not consider:

  • Casablanca (1942)
  • When Harry Met Sally (1989)
  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
  • Titanic (1997)
  • Dirty Dancing (1987)
  • Pretty Woman (1990)
  • It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
  • Beauty and the Beast (1992)

However if you prefer the more modern film, why not try:

  • La La Land (2016)
  • (500) Days of Summer (2009)
  • The Notebook (2004)
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
  • Pride & Prejudice (2005)
  • P.S. I Love You (2007)
  • The Holiday (2006)
  • Dear John (2010)
  • A Star is Born (2018)

Keep cosy

While you’re snuggling up on the sofa watching a romantic film with some scented candles in the background, why not keep cosy?

February can still be very cold as winter hasn’t yet released its hold. Grab your fluffiest blanket and thickest socks, along with your favourite slippers to get comfy and warm. Why not change into your pyjamas for maximum comfort?

Treat yourself and your partner to a hot chocolate with added cream and marshmallows. Go on, you deserve it after your New Year healthy resolution!
