Joe  Mercer

Property Consultant

Joe Mercer is a property consultant at The Property Buying Company and is one of the newer additions to the team. If you call in or enquire online, then there’s every chance that your first phone call might be with him.

He’s a property fanatic and has been in the industry since he finished university back in 2020, working for a variety of different companies and roles. Outside of property, he’s the proud father to two young boys, which you’ll find out more about in our quick-fire questions below!

What experience do you have in property?

I’ve been in property for 5 years now, having gone straight into the industry after finishing University, and I’ve not looked back!

Throughout this time, I’ve worked in a variety of different roles, just about everything you can imagine, from lettings to investment sales. This puts me in quite a unique position. At The Property Buying Company, we have a lot of different sales solutions, and I can lean on my experience to help identify the best potential solution for a customer based on their property and specific circumstances.

What’s your role at The Property Buying Company?

I’m a Property Consultant. If you have enquired through the website or called in, then there’s every chance that we may speak. It’s my role to find out more information about your property and identify, based on your circumstances and requirements, which of our sale solutions will match your needs and clearly present you with your options.

Why should customers want to deal with you (what makes you special)?

Well, I like to think it’s because I’m friendly & approachable, but that’s for you to judge! Haha.

Joking aside, I would mainly say it’s because of my experience, I’m always happy to help and guide customers to finding the right solution – it absolutely has to work for them and their unique circumstances, it’s my opinion that you should never look to force people into anything, it just doesn’t work and results in an unhappy customer and wasted time for all parties, something that I like to think I’m pretty good at avoiding.

What’s your proudest moment in the job?

I’ve not been here long, but I’ve already had a great experience in my first week, managing to help a customer who has been struggling with traditional estate agents for months get a quick sale at the price and timeline they needed to achieve.

Aside from that, I would have to say that in the past, my proudest moment has been selling 19 apartments in a single transaction to the value of just over £2.5million.

What’s been your most challenging moment?

One of my most challenging moments was when I was actually in the lettings side of property, it was “student changeover day”. A notoriously busy and frantic time, I had to move out 40-50 students from their apartments, complete the inventories and then get the units prepped for the next set of students to move in, a quick and challenging turnaround.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

As soppy as it sounds, my hobbies pretty much revolve around my two little boys; whatever they’re into that given week, I’m right there with them!

Aside from that, I would mostly say you’ll catch me walking my dog or brewing my homemade mead.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Can I dodge this one? I’m not sure yet, I’ll have to let the team decide when they get to know me a little bit better!
