All of our recent blogs around Coronavirus and lockdown has been what effect it’s having and is going to have on the property industry – but we thought we’d take a bit more of a light hearted approach with this one.

We know that some people aren’t necessarily dealing with lockdown as well as others, and at this point several weeks in your probably getting pretty bored.

The Government has announced a change in the restrictions of lockdown, but for those who are higher risk or want to stay safe, the fact that outside is going to get a little bit busier now may mean you want to stay inside.

So without further ado, here are our top 10 tips to keep entertained whilst at home during lockdown:

1. Catch up on box sets

It’s never too late to get into Game of Thrones or watch all seasons of the newly added to Netflix series Community or catch the new season of Afterlife.

Popular streaming platforms have been great at releasing series during this time in the attempt to keep people entertained.

2. Virtual tours or experiences

In an effort to bring the outdoors to your living rooms there have been several virtual tours of museums, attractions and zoos of which you can access online.

A lot of them are fantastic, giving you an insight into a bit of behind the scenes and some are interactive, it’s a great one to keep the kids entertained!

3. Get stuck into a good book

What better time than to get stuck into a great book?

There’s nothing better than an old classic, here are 5 of the best book series to give you an idea, subject to opinion of course:

  • Harry Potter – J.K. Rowling

  • The Chronicles of Naria – C. S.

  • Discworld – Terry Pratchett

  • A Song of Ice and Fire – George R. R. Martin

  • The hunger Games – Suzanne Collins

4. Missing the pub? Do a virtual pub quiz

Since the pubs shut people have been missing their weekly fix of the pub quiz.

Lucky enough a lot of pubs or bars have taken to online to host a virtual pub quiz often through a zoom call or live video.

Just go on Facebook and follow your favourite local, they might have moved their quiz online, if not there are also larger national ones, such as the Virtual Pub Quiz on YouTube.

5. The top 100 movies bucket list

Hopefully this will make a dint in your lockdown time.

There are scratch off posters you can get with the top 100 films so you can scratch off a box each time you watch one, from the Titanic to Fight Club there’s a few movies for everyone on there.

6. It’s time to tackle that garden

Not got much of a green thumb? Maybe you’ve been neglecting the garden over the winter.

We’re vastly approaching summer, so you’ve now got the time to make sure that it’s pristine and ready to enjoy the good weather.

Some tips are starting to re-open with social distancing rules, so you should be able to get rid of the waste.

7. Learn a new skill or language

Now is the perfect time to enhance yourself, there are so many skills and useful things you can learn that will improve your life:

  • Learn to speak a new language

  • Teach yourself how to draw

  • Learn to play the guitar

  • Become an expert chef

  • Learn some self defence

8. Exercise your mind with a crossword

Keep yourself sharp, whilst you’re not at work you might not be challenging yourself as much from a mental perspective.

A challenging Crosswords is an excellent way to keep your brain tuned in. There are several online crosswords or you could just simply pick up a newspaper when you go the shops.

9. Watch a virtual concert

All foreseeable events have been cancelled, including all music gigs.

A lot of artists have taken to YouTube and other platforms to perform from their own homes, although you can tell some have slightly better set up than others!

John Legend, Chris Martin, Metallica, Elton John, to name just a few. There was a huge “One World: Together at Home” concert, featuring some of the worlds largest music artists from their homes.

10. Earn some money online

Be a bit careful with this because you can fall down a bit of a rabbit hole of research, trying to find out how you can make money online with most of which not bearing any fruit.

Here are just a few of the ways to earn a bit of extra money during this tough time:

  • Start a blog or website & add Google Adsense or Affiliate Market

  • Offer your skills on a consulting basis by reaching out to companies

  • Start a podcast from your home

  • Become a freelance writer or designer

  • Start a YouTube channel

  • Become a website tester with User Testing, What Users Do & more.
